Brien brings over a decade of experience supporting adolescents and young adults in developing independence, confidence, and meaningful life skills. With a background spanning residential transition programs, nonprofit autism services, and wilderness therapy, Brien offers a well-rounded, hands-on approach to working with neurodivergent individuals—particularly young adults on the autism spectrum navigating the transition to adulthood.
Brien originally served at Beacon Transitions as a Lead Residential Advisor, then Phase Two Case Manager from 2022–2024 and recently returned to the team in 2026 as our Vocational & Community Engagement Coordinator. In this role, he works closely with residents one-on-one to support the full employment journey—from identifying strengths and interests, to job searching, interviewing, and securing meaningful work. He also provides ongoing support with job maintenance, helping residents build consistency, workplace communication skills, and confidence in real-world environments. Beyond employment, Brien plays a key role in helping residents connect to the broader community. He supports individuals in exploring leisure interests, building social confidence, and engaging in meaningful activities that promote long-term independence and quality of life—an essential component of successful adult transition for individuals with autism and related challenges.
Throughout his work, Brien emphasizes executive functioning, emotional regulation, and practical skill-building. He has extensive experience implementing positive behavior supports and collaborating with clinical teams, including behavior analysts and therapists, to ensure each individual receives thoughtful, consistent care. He is also skilled in crisis response, conflict resolution, and creating safe environments where growth can happen—even during challenging moments.
Prior to Beacon, Brien worked with the Autism Society of North Carolina, where he supported individuals in strengthening communication skills, accessing community resources, and building independence in daily life. His foundation in wilderness therapy as a Mentor Level Instructor further shaped his approach, emphasizing resilience, adaptability, and experiential learning.
Brien is known for his steady presence, practical teaching style, and ability to meet individuals where they are while helping them take meaningful steps forward. His work is rooted in connection, accountability, and a genuine commitment to helping young adults build lives that are both capable and fulfilling.
